King Charles III’s first Canada trip as the head of state has been postponed following his cancer diagnosis, media reports stated.

According to CBC, the trip, which was scheduled to take place in May 2024, has been put on hold due to the British monarch’s health.

Earlier this month, Buckingham Palace revealed that King Charles III was diagnosed with an unidentified form of cancer when he went through a hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement.

Even though King’s official trip to Canada was yet to be confirmed by Buckingham Palace, several media reports including the UK media reported about his visit along with Queen Camilla.

In the official statement about the king's health, Buckingham Palace did not reveal which form of cancer was detected. But, the palace said King Charles III "remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible."

CBC News sent an information access request which received a response from a Canadian official writing that following the announcement of a cancer diagnosis for His Majesty the King, there are no more tours planned in Canada for 2024, nor are there any tours planned with other members of the Royal Family.

Confidential sources have told CBC News that the preparations for a royal tour are being delayed. Buckingham Palace has yet to issue a statement in response to inquiries for comment.

The King was crowned in 2021 following his mother, Queen Elizabeth II’s demise after nearly seven decades of rule. Since King Charles’ coronation last May, he has not travelled to any commonwealth nation.
