Man charged in connection to 2 fires in Summerland

A 49-year-old man has been arrested in link with the mysterious fires at a church and a high school in Summerland over the weekend.
 
In a statement, RCMP Summerland said that Gerrid Perret has been charged with breaking and entering, mischief and failing to adhere to a probation order.
 
“Perret has been charged with break and enter, mischief, and failing to comply with his probation order,” the police said.
 
On February 3rd, 2024, a burglary followed by a fire in its basement struck St. Stephens Church. The very next day, a second fire, deemed suspicious, occurred in an outside stairway at Summerland Secondary School. This event was promptly brought to attention by an alert local resident.
 
The Summerland RCMP expressed gratitude towards the community for their crucial role in providing video evidence and photos, which led to the identification and capture of Gerrid Perret, a 49-year-old from Penticton.
 
 
“Thanks to the community's cooperation in providing video surveillance and photographs, RCMP were able to identify and arrest 49-year-old Penticton resident, Gerrid Perret,” the release said.
 
Perret faces charges including breaking and entering, causing mischief, and breaching probation conditions.
 
Following his arrest, Perret was detained on February 5th, 2024.
 
The Summerland RCMP extended their thanks to the community for their invaluable support in resolving the case.
