The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), one of Ontario's most prestigious cultural and educational landmarks, is celebrating its 110th anniversary by offering free admission to the public this weekend. Visitors are invited to explore the museum's vast collections and special exhibitions on Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

While entry is free, the museum advises that there may be wait times due to the anticipated influx of visitors and the building's capacity limits. This weekend presents a unique opportunity for guests to engage with a variety of exhibitions without the usual cost of admission.

The ROM's journey began in 1912 when the Ontario Legislature established it through the ROM Act. It officially opened its doors on March 19, 1914, in a building that now forms the museum's west wing. Initially, the ROM consisted of five separate museums affiliated with the University of Toronto. However, in 1955, these were merged into one entity, and in 1968, the museum became an independent institution.

Over the years, the ROM has undergone several expansions and renovations. The ROM has hosted a variety of memorable exhibitions over the years, ranging from displays of Egyptian art in the age of the pyramids to the skeleton and heart of a blue whale that washed ashore in western Newfoundland.

As the ROM celebrates its 110th anniversary, this free admission weekend is a testament to its enduring commitment to making culture and education accessible to all. It's an invitation to the community to explore the wonders of the natural and human-made world, and to participate in the ongoing story of one of Canada's most cherished institutions.
